Positive Thinking and Belief in God

The events we encounter in life often lead us to think either positively or negatively. But here, we need to pause and reflect: Is positive thinking and hopefulness just a state of mind, or is it a manifestation of our belief in God? The answer to this question reveals an important truth that shapes the depth of our faith and our perspective on life.
God, the Almighty Creator, has created humanity in the best form and granted us intellect, willpower, and the ability to think. During life’s ups and downs, we are often reminded of this verse:
“Indeed, with hardship comes ease.” (Surah Al-Inshirah, 6).
This verse is not just a consolation but also a test of our faith in God. Being able to stay hopeful in challenging times demonstrates our unwavering trust in His mercy.
Unfortunately, we often surround ourselves with negative words, complaints, and hopelessness. Phrases like “Nothing ever works out for me” or “Life is always hard on me” can actually undermine our faith in destiny.
God does not burden any soul beyond its capacity (Surah Al-Baqarah, 286).
Therefore, these negative words and thoughts make it harder for us to understand the wisdom behind our trials. A person who speaks negatively adopts a stance that, in a way, questions God’s wisdom.
Positive thinking, gratitude in all circumstances, and acting with hope are profound signs of faith. When a person submits to the infinite power and wisdom of God, worldly troubles affect them less. Every hardship we face in life is, in fact, a test and an opportunity to draw closer to God. Facing these challenges with positivity and hope strengthens our bond with Him.
For this reason, being positive in our thoughts and words is not merely a choice but a reflection of our faith in God. Let us remind ourselves and others of this verse:
“Do not despair of the mercy of Allah. Indeed, Allah forgives all sins.” (Surah Az-Zumar, 53).
With this verse, we can instill hope and peace in both ourselves and those around us.
Let us not forget that every positive thought is a prayer, and every hopeful word is a sign of faith in God. No matter what happens in life, let us walk with the belief that God is always with us. Instead of negative words, let us bring meaning to our lives with gratitude and hope. This is not only a way to improve ourselves but also a means to convey the beautiful message of Islam to others.
As the great scholar Ibn Arabi said,
“Everything is a manifestation of His light. Therefore, do not view anything with pessimism; see the Divine in every particle.”
